We are excited to host our 3 day Up Dog Challenge event on May 20-22, 2023. This is a Harry Potter themed event running the regular Up Dog Challenge games. Please note that we are newbie friendly and encourage spectators to come out and watch. This is a limited entry trial and registration will be closed once we are full.
Location: Cedar Community Secondary School (1640 MacMillan Road, Nanaimo, BC V9X 1L9)
This is an outdoor trial played rain or shine!
Cost: $18.00/run or $288 for a full weekend package of 18 rounds
Payment: once we have received your registration we ask that you send an etransfer to nanaimodiscdogs@gmail.com immediately. No registration will be considered valid without payment and it will not hold a space for you.
Placements & Awards: We will be offering awards for 1st through 3rd for all Up Dog games split across 3 divisions.
There will be an Overall Award for each division: Wingardium Leviosa, Expecto Patronum and Riddikulus. The Overall Award points will be based on dog regardless of if they are handled by more than 1 human. If your dog plays in multiple divisions with different handlers your dog will be competing for overall in their highest division but their scores from all handlers will count towards their total.
In addition to regular prizes, dogs who are competing all 3 days in at least 4 games per day will be eligible to participate in The Quidditch Cup competition. The only exception will be dogs not yet old enough to play Freestyle and Cross Over games – they can be sorted into houses if they sign up for ALL other games. Dogs will be sorted into houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Dogs will be sorted by pulling a bandana out of the Sorting Hat. All dogs in each house will be given a bandana in their house colours and will accumulate points throughout the weekend for The Quidditch Cup. The winning house will receive The Quidditch Cup: a giant trophy that will be engraved with each dog’s name and be featured each year, each individual dog on the team will receive a small trophy that they can keep. This is meant to be a legacy event that we will hold it each year and dogs will have the opportunity to immortalize themselves by being part of the winning house.

Divisions: Divisions will be assigned to each team (dog/handler) based on recent previous scores in a variety of games. Divisions will be posted in advance of the competition day on our Facebook page. Each division will have their own set of placements and special awards.
- Wingardium Leviosa
- Expecto Patronum
- Riddikulus
All games at this trial will be Level 1 with the exception of Freestyle where both Level 1 and 2 will be offered.
Volunteers: We do rely on volunteers for helping us run the event (painting the field, set up/tear down, timer, line judges, etc). There will be prize draws each day for anyone who helps with volunteering.
Apparel: You can order custom event t-shirts and hoodies from Gail Beerman. She can be contacted by email: gbeerman1@hotmail.com or direct messaging through our club page on Facebook.
Pairs Games: We will be offering pairs games (4 Way Play & Throw N Go). You can select your partner in advance during registration or we can match you with someone at the event. You may choose any human partner you wish including someone who isn’t competing at the event with any other dog. Please note pairs games are 1 dog and 2 humans.
